Space Brains – Podcast

Space Brains is a fortnightly podcast that discusses what is good and what is great about science fiction movies.
Hosts Surrey Hughes and Mark Regan love science fiction films and aim to share that love with the audience. This is not a show that dishes dirt or talks to a negative point.

‘Science-brain’ Surrey, is a published author and IT professional. ‘Cinema-brain’ Mark, is a filmmaker and media teacher. Together they share the science and cinematic elements of each movie they review.

The podcast explores classic, recent, blockbuster and cult films. The hosts occasionally interview special guests such as Hamad AlSarraf who wrote and directed “In Paradox” and Luke Sparke, writer/director of “Occupation” and “Occupation: Rainfall”.

The space brains are from a wondrous and heart-warming part of the galaxy and hence they joy-watch. This means when they watch science fiction films, they deliberately look for the positives and try to get the most from the experience they can.

Space Brains began in 2019. All episodes are recorded, edited and published in Mandurah, Western Australia.

Episode – 71 – Cosmos

Cosmos

Cosmos is a 2019 UK film by the writer/director brothers Elliot and Zander Weaver. It is a film about three amateur astronomers who affirm bonds of friendship, not only amongst themselves but into the cosmos. Starring Tom England, Joshua Ford and Arjun Singh Panam, this ultra-low budget sci-fi film proves that it isn’t money that makes a good film, it is passion.

A clean, crisp signal cuts through the static and noise of space. When you’ve spent years listening to the sounds of the cosmos, you get used to hearing weirdness, but Mike Webster knows this is no ordinary signal. It’s not a pulsar or a black hole, it’s not interference, it’s something different, something logical, something with purpose.

We discuss the way Cosmos was made without money, what the Weaver’s were trying to do (in hour humble opinion) and the way the classic three act structure can be looked at through a different lens.
